It goes by so fast! Some highlights were meeting Mrs. Nickolas and Drake, our district's therapy dog. Drake was a sweet and caring dog, was able to spend some 'off the leash time' sniffing and kissing us all, and we all had a laugh when he found a couple of our snack bags.
Another highlight was our first morning meeting. We greeted each other and played Zoom! These are essential team-building activities that set the groundwork for our 21st century projects in the upcoming weeks. The stronger our team, the deeper our learning. Lot's of routines! We livened it up by using an online Google Form to create a page that lists all of our dismissal instructions. Instead of creating it myself, we used the available technology to create it. Working together to keep everyone safe, it's a great way to build community. We ended our day with a bit of inquiry. Do you know about dollar words? Well, a handful of words in our language are worth exactly a dollar. Some of us found which day of the week is equal to one dollar. Can you find it? Pretend that A=$0.01, B=$0.02, and C=$0.03. Keep it a secret if you do, some of us are still trying to figure it out! In just a few hours, I will get to meet all of you for the first time-my new students. I can't wait, and I hope that you are as excited to start the year as I am. I have lots of creative activities planned for the year: projects, collaborations, expert presentations, genius hour, podcasts, screencasts, team building, community, camp, science fair, blogging, camp, and much, much more. So here we are, sitting by a pool with friends and family, as the last hours of summer tick by. The glow of sunset is on the trees and the laughter of children is slowly quieting. Tomorrow we will be setting backpacks by the door, packing lunches, getting the camera ready for our tradition of a first day, front step picture. We may all have some thoughts of summer lasting forever. It's natural, but once we get started that will fade into pleasant memories as we move into the excitement of the year. Lets get started! See you Tuesday! |
